Understanding AfroLatinidad
“Understanding AfroLatinidad” is an interactive workshop that utilizes the afrolatin@ forum’s video/media library and research from The Afro-Latin@ Reader: History and Culture in the United States. Workshop participants are introduced to the identity of AfroLatinidad by discussing issues of visibility and anti-blackness within the Latin@ community including ways in which these matters can be overcome. The workshop further challenges participants to rethink their understanding of AfroLatinidad and Latinidad as a whole by asking them to embrace a more diverse understanding that includes and centers Blackness as an expression of Latin@ identity.
“I liked the videos! Really used to lectures led by one person, so being able to watch videos of different people sharing their experiences and perspectives was really refreshing and helpful.” - Workshop participant
