Nuestra voz hoy: ¿Qué tenemos para decir y qué nos toca hacer?

  • Casa Cole 59 Calle Robles San Juan, San Juan, 00925 Puerto Rico (map)

In powerful collaboration with Corredor Afro, La Colectiva Feminista en Construcción, Creative Justice Initiative, ORI Micro Galería Afro, and La Escuela de Liderazgo Política y Comunitaria, we are proud to present an evening inspired by the board of Corredor Afro and rooted in the profound wisdom of James Baldwin:

"The poets, by which I mean all artists, are finally the only people that know the truth about us. Soldiers don’t, statesmen don’t, priests don’t, union leaders don’t… only the poets."

When the team at Corredor Afro asked, "What do we have to say in this moment of peril?" we looked to the artists. We invite you to join us for:

"Nuestra voz hoy: ¿Qué tenemos para decir y qué nos toca hacer?" (Our Voice Today: What do we have to say, and what is our responsibility?)

Featuring:

  • Colectivo Umoja, bringing the Bomba vibes!

  • DJ Laylo (the highly respected scholar, Loira Limbal)

  • Plena Baile, bringing the Plena vibes!

  • Also, this is an open mic poetry night!

This open mic poetry night will be a space for music, verse, and reflection on our lived experiences. It is a vital showcase of the resistance and brilliant work young Afro-Puerto Rican organizations are doing across the archipelago to continue the fight.
